Bringing Your Build From Zero To Hero
So you wanna bring your new build from zero to hero? Unsure of how or where to start? As firearms have advanced and paved the way for an ever-increasing amount of customization, it can be easily overwhelming for both novices and experienced pros alike to decide what components they want, and why they’d even want them. For this week’s #HKP Blog, we are going to be going over a new build we’ve been working on, what components we chose, and the benefits of each one.
Compensator
When it comes to immediately noticeable performance, a compensator is your go-to. These finely machined parts can easily add not only a stunning visual impact to your firearm, but most importantly, drastically alter the way it shoots to your benefit. The ultimate goal of a compensator is to reduce your firearms muzzle rise and the recoil you ultimately feel. Accomplished by basically adding a calibrated weight to the end of your firearm, this allows the user to rapidly follow-up shots accurately, refocus on sights, and keep a tighter shot grouping. Alot of compensators also include a rail mount so you can still easily include RDS or a Low-Profile Flashlight!
Extended Mag & Magwell

While we understand that this unfortunately doesn’t apply to all states, those who are permitted can benefit greatly from an Extended Mag. Obviously our most important feature here is that we are able to achieve a higher mag capacity, and in turn fire more shots. Another great use of an extended mag is that they often help to act as a counterweight during your first few shots and can help with initial shot line-up because of the added balance. If you’re rocking a smaller frame handgun, an extended mag can give you a pinky rest as well!
A nice Extended Magwell can help speed up your reload, and if it comes down to it where fractions of a second count, could save your life. A flared magwell is basically a low-profile funnel at the bottom of your mag port that aids in inserting your magazine quickly.

Extended Mag Release
A basic, cost-effective and for some, essential upgrade to any firearm. An extended mag release can help those with smaller hands speed up their reload, and they also overall increase your firearm ergonomics since you’re able to focus more on your target, instead of your reload and having to search for a mag release. This helps greatly for gloved shooters. These extended releases are generally also much stronger than your stock releases that tend to be a polymer button or lever and can hold up to extended use and stress.
While these are of course just a few of the basic options you have to choose from when customizing your firearms, these are what we recommend to get most people started. If you’re on a tight budget and looking to gradually upgrade your firearm, we highly recommend you work in the order of importance. Sights first, mags second, accessories, bells and whistles last. Focus on finding what works best for you, your needs, and your budget. Practice with your new components often and maintain them as you do your normal firearms!
